City Travel Tip #1275

Cycling at Singapore’s Coney Island Park

Photo:

Did you know that Singapore has a Coney Island too? This is the easiest island of Singapore to visit, because it is linked to the mainland by a promenade walk in Punggol. Hence no boat ride is required to get to the Coney Island Park for a day of adventure surrounded with nature. You will need to first travel to Punggol in the northeast of Singapore, before walking along the Punggol Promenade Nature Walk.

Coney Island Park is uninhabited. There are also no shops in the area. Hence, it is truly an ecological park, housing a wide variety of habitats, such as coastal forests, grasslands and mangroves. It is also home to a wide variety of animals and plants, including critically endangered species.

On weekends, I like to cycle at Coney Island Park because I enjoy the rustic surroundings, far from the bustle of city life. Cycling through the island will allow you to spot wildlife such as families of monkeys or wild boars up close. There are five beach areas at Coney Island Park, which are generally quiet and peaceful. Bring along some packed food and find a nice picnic spot facing the seaside. However it is a good idea to also pack some insect repellent because there are many sandflies in the area.
