Tips for traveling on the Mass Rapid Transit – Singapore (MRT)

Photo:

Getting around in Singapore is easy with the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) network. Almost every part of the country is conveniently connected by this train network. The trains are fast and clean, so you can be sure of a comfortable and smooth journey!

Stored value train cards, known as EZ-link cards, can be purchased at any MRT station. It might also be a good idea to plan ahead and find accommodation located near a MRT station.

Each trip is reasonably priced at approximately between SGD$1 – $2.50, depending on the distance travelled. This is definitely one of the cheapest mode of transport in Singapore as compared to grabbing a cab.

Here are some tips to take note of when travelling on the MRT:

1. Eating and drinking is not allowed on the trains. This helps to maintain the cleanliness.

2. Certain seats, usually at the corners of each train cabin, are marked as priority seats. These are reserved for passengers who are elderly, pregnant, or disabled.

3. On your train journey, you may need to switch lines at interchange stations. Simply follow the directional signs to get on the right trains. If you feel lost, you can always approach the helpful station staff.
