City Travel Tip #1379

See the city from above – What to do for free in London?

Photo:

To take a ride on the panoramic Ferris wheel (London Eye) or to climb the platform of the tallest building in the city (The Shard), you’ll need to open your wallet, but there are other wonderful, free alternatives.

One of London’s skyscrapers, the Walkie-Talkie Building, houses a garden called the Sky Garden on the thirty-fifth floor. From there, you have beautiful views of the city, including the tallest building (The Shard) on the other side of the river.

Another free hanging garden where you can have a great view of the city is the recently opened The Garden at 120, also in London. The garden is located on the fifteenth floor of the building and is a great place to take your sandwich for lunch or take a break to rest among the flowers.

In North London, just outside Camden, Primrose Hill Park also offers beautiful city views. The park is located in an elevated place in the city, and from there you can see the London Eye. Totally free.

Greenwich also offers several free programs in addition to Greenwich Park, which also has a panoramic view of London.
