Whenever I visit Penang, I make it a point to go to Gurney Drive Hawker Centre. This open air hawker centre is located by the seafront, so you can catch whiffs of salt breeze while dining.
Also known as a food paradise, you can find a wide range of popular Malaysian street food at Gurney Drive. This includes oyster omelet, char kway teow (a fried noodle dish, as seen in the photo accompanying this post), rojak, Hokkien mee and more. After your hearty meal, you can walk it off at one of the malls nearby.
Sadly, research online shows that the hawker centre seems to be badly affected by the drop in Penang’s tourism due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Apparently some stalls were forced to close down. Hopefully the next time we can visit Penang, the hawker centre will be bustling with life again.
