If you get into a Taxi in Tokyo (or elsewhere in Japan) most Taxi drives have a handle they will pull on to close your door once you are in. So, don’t be all Western and try to force the door closed as it’s likely the taxi driver is taking care of that and you’ll just end up fighting against him. If you get in and there is clearly no handle then you can close it. For newer cars like the Alphard models they use, the door will close automatically from a button the driver can control so, again, once your are in the taxi just sit tight.
